Are there different types of yoga you can learn?

Yes, there are 5 major types of yoga you can popularly find around the world. They are:

  • Vinyasa
  • Ashtanga
  • Hatha
  • Iyengar
  • Hot Yoga

This type of yoga includes all the classic poses but instead of standing still in one pose, it continuously moves around different poses. You will have to fluidly move around different poses and control your breath according to the movement.

It is very calming and soothing to perform this yoga. Since there is movement, you will not feel stagnation or difficulty. It is almost like meditating in a moving manner since it involves controlled breathing according to the motion.

This yoga also promotes physical fitness and increases endurance. With controlled breathing techniques, you will be able to increase your stamina.

It is similar to Vinyasa yoga but instead of moving between a variety of postures, you are provided with a set of poses within which you have to complete one set. It has a sequence that has to be followed and you cannot deviate from it. It doesn’t differ much from Vinyasa, but you may have to memorize the sequence.

Hatha Yoga comprises all the styles from Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Iyengar, and Hot Yoga. But instead of moving fluidly between poses, you will be resting in a pose for more than a minute. Since you will be resting in a pose for long periods, it is done while sitting, standing, and lying down. This yoga improves the balance and strength of your body.

This type of yoga is performed when you cannot completely move your body or you have mobility issues. Some people may have issues with certain postures and they cannot do all the yoga poses. But this style of yoga can help relieve that issue since it is also a slow form of yoga that considers the mobility issue.

Hot Yoga

As the name suggests, you will be performing this yoga at a slow pace that comprises 26 poses in a hot environment. It increases the flexibility of the muscles and relieves stress in a large manner. Many people feel this yoga is a boost for their moods.

Getting trained in all these yoga styles will make you a great yoga trainer. Now that you are informed about all the different types, you can now get trained and start practicing it.
